G-20 yaitu kependekan dari The Group of Twenty atau Kelompok dua puluh, menyerupai namanya organisasi ini mempunyai 20 keanggotaan, yakni sebanyak 19 negara yang mempunyai perekonomian yang besar di dunia, dan ditambah dengan Uni eropa.

G-20 mempunyai sebutan yang lebih lengkap dan secara resmi dipakai yaitu:

Kelompok G-20 terbentuk pada tahun 1999, pada pertemuan pertama kelompok G-20 yang berlangsung di Berlin, Jerman pada tanggal 15-16 Desember 1999.

Latar belakang terbentuknya Group of Twenty (G-20) ini diawali ketika terjadinya krisis ekonomi pada tahun 1998, ditambah lagi dengan munculnya banyak sekali pendapat dalam lembaga G-7 perihal pentingnya untuk melibatkan Kekuatan Ekonomi (Keuangan) dari banyak sekali negara-negara maju lainnya dalam hal mencapai solusi yang lebih Efektif demi kemajuan dan pertumbuhan ekonomi dunia.
